Reverse osmosis system SRO

The Spadoni SRO reverse osmosis system (F-31) is a useful mechanism to reduce the percentage of water by extraction and, consequently, to increase the concentration of the sugar and of all the other organoleptic elements present in the grape must. This allows for the concentration of aromas, perfumes, extracts, organic acids, phenolic components and anthocyanins and everything that enriches the must, which will, in turn, favore the increase of its body, improving the structure, the alcohol content, and the colour of the future wine.

Reverse osmosis system RO works through a semi-permeable membrane and at room temperature, by harnessing the action of a pressure capable of overcoming the osmotic pressure, the water is separated from the wine must, consequently making it richer and more concentrated without altering its organoleptic structure, without resorting to external elements.

In this way, in addition to increasing the sugar component, there is an important concentration of aromas, scents, extracts, organic acids, and all that will ultimately raise the alcohol content, and improve the structure and color of future wine.

Reverse osmosis system in the Spadoni line offer several advantages during product processing, including: significant containment of operating costs, variability of modules depending on the product, minimal loss of permeate substances, and minimal rise in must temperature during the operation.

Operating principles

The product enters the machine through a stainless steel 18-10 (AISI 304) centrifugal pump, and from there, is sent to a safety pre-filter, to protect the membranes.

From this point, the product passes through one or more 18-10 stainless steel (AISI 304) high pressure piston pumps capable of bringing it to the necessary operating pressure for the set membranes and flow rate. The product coming from the piston pump enters the housings, where the membranes are located.

The concentrate and the permeate are sent, respectively, to the product feed tank (recirculation) and to the drain. During washing operations,  it is possible to send the recirculating concentrate to the washing tank.

Characteristics

  • Frame built entirely in stainless steel (AISI 304), placed on 4 wheels (2 fixed, 2 swiveling);
  • Tainless steel pipes (AISI 304), both on the low pressure and on the high pressure side;
  • Flexible hose in PTFE or food-grade rubber;
  • High pressure piston pumps in stainless steel (AISI 304);
  • Pressure switch, to insure minimum pressure presence at the inlet of the piston pump;
  • Safety pressure switch, for max product pressure (high) at the outlet from the piston pump;
  • Safety pressure switch, for maximum (low) product pressure at the machine outlet, after the pressure adjustment needle valve, to avoid the risk of high pressure in the final low pressure
  • Segment, due to incorrect operation;
  • Double pressure gauge, upstream and downstream of the prefilter, to check for any clogging;
  • High pressure gauge, upstream and downstream of the membranes;
  • Manual needle valve, for pressure calibration;
  • Digital litre counter;
  • Panel litre counter, for automatic shutdown of the machine when the set value for the permeate is reached;
  • Digital thermostat for temperature control and acoustic protection alarm (in case of washing at high temperature);
